Orcs and Elves for Nintendo DS question?

I am playing Orcs and Elves for Nintendo DS. I am stuck at a part where I have to get ale for a ghost dwarf and I cannot get past the crusher thing to get the ale. Help please. Any tips and info greatly appreciated. Many many thanks in advance. I did try to find walk throughs and none exist yet.
