My nissan 200sx will not go into overdrive, is it electric or a trans malfunction?

1995 200sx the engine was switched out with a 1996 sentra 1.6 eng., I wonder if something was not hooked back up on the trans that will not allow o/d to operate, the switch goes on and off on the dash, but it doesn't shift into o/d.
