Can a capacitor bank change polarization (positive and negative switch sides)?

I have a capacitor bank that charges to 60 joules, and another (wired in parallel) that charges to 64 joules. The smaller one seems to have changed polarization, but I am not sure that I want to charge and discharge it if it is wired "backwards". If the change is possible, how might it have happened?
